Grupo de biólogos que centra sus investigaciones en la contribución a la gestión sostenible de los recursos vivos marinos en el Atlántico centro oriental, que incluye aguas de la costa noroccidental africana (en colaboración con los países ribereños) y del Archipiélago Canario. Desde los años 70 el equipo ha realizado importantes avances en la biología de las principales especies y forma parte de los grupos de trabajo FAO para la evaluación de estos recursos. Asimismo, el equipo es responsable de la recopilación de datos biológico-pesqueros de la flota española en la zona para la UE y ofrece asesoramiento científico-técnico para la implementación de la directiva europea sobre Estrategia Marina en Canarias, donde es responsable del seguimiento científico de los espacios marinos protegidos de interés pesquero. El equipo lleva a cabo campañas de investigación y de ecosistemas costeros y profundos en el área incluyendo el uso de modernos vehículos de operación remota. -
Descriptión (English):
Team of marine biologists focused on the contribution to a sustainable management of the marine resources in the central east Atlantic waters. It includes marine resources from north-east Africa (in collaboration with the riparian countries) and the Canary Archipelagos. Since seventies, the team achieved important contributions to the knowledge of biological parameters of fish and invertebrate target species and participates in the FAO working groups for the assessment of these marine resources. The team is responsible of the Data Collection Framework for the Spanish fleet in the area, and they provide scientific and technical advice to the Spanish Government for the implementation of the Marine Strategy Directive in waters of the Canary Islands. The team has a wide experience on monitoring marine protected areas of the archipelago, and carried out exploration and research cruises of coastal and deep sea ecosystems including the use of remotely operated vehicles.
