    Las metas globales del Grupo de Microalgas Nocivas son la descripci¨®n de las microalgas causantes de s¨ªndromes t¨®xicos¨Dtransmitidos a trav¨¦s de la cadena tr¨®fica por consumo de bivalvos y peces (envenenamientos paralizantes, diarreicos, amn¨¦sicos, ciguatera) o por contacto directo (irritaciones respiratorias a trav¨¦s del espray marino)¨Dy la predicci¨®n de los eventos t¨®xicos mediante oceanograf¨ªa operacional. Sus l¨ªneas de investigaci¨®n incluyen: 1) Caracterizaci¨®n taxon¨®mica, toxinol¨®gica y filogen¨¦tica de las microalgas nocivas; 2) Ciclos de vida, autoecolog¨ªa, din¨¢mica de poblaciones; 3) Series temporales y respuesta a la variabilidad clim¨¢tica; 4) Desarrollo tecnol¨®gico parar la mejora de sistemas de detecci¨®n de microalgas nocivas y sus toxinas. Sus actividades se encuadran dentro de las prioridades identificadas por expertos en floraciones algales nocivas del Consejo Internacional para la Exploraci¨®n del Mar (ICES)¨DGrupo de Trabajo ICES/COI sobre Din¨¢mic

    The goals of the Harmful Microalgae Group are the description of microalgae which cause toxic syndromes transmitted through the food web¨Dshellfish (paralytic, diarrhoetic, amnesic) and fish (ciguatera) poisonings¨Dor by direct exposure (respiratory and skin irritations by sea spray)¨Dand the use of operational oceanography to forecast these events. Research lines of the group include: 1) Taxonomic, toxinological and phylogenetic characterization of harmful microalgae species; 2) Life cycle, autoecology and population dynamics; 3) Time series and response to climate variability; 4) Technological development to improve detection of harmful microalgae and their toxins. The activities of the group are in the framework of priorities identified by harmful algal bloom (HAB) expert groups of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES)¨DICES/IOC Working Group of HAB Dynamics¨Dand the Intergovernmental Panel on Harmful Algal Blooms (IPHAB) of the Intergovernmental Oceanogra
