    El grupo de investigación Dinámica del Ecosistema Plantónico se centra en la ecología de las comunidades plantónicas marinas y su influencia en los flujos biogeoquímicos, incluyendo el análisis de la dinámica del medio físico como principal forzador del sistema. Estudia una gran variedad de procesos hidrodinámicos y de organismos desde bacterias a larvas de peces, trabaja en diferentes niveles de organización, desde individuos hasta todo el ecosistema, y analiza sus interacciones a distintas escalas espaciales y temporales (mesoescala, globales, fenología y decadales¿). El trabajo de campo, los estudios experimentales y el modelado se combinan para entender el funcionamiento de los procesos hidrodinámicos, la estructura, diversidad y funcionamiento de las comunidades planctónicas, cómo el conjunto del sistema está influenciado por el cambio climático y cómo afecta a los niveles tróficos superiores del ecosistema (e.g. poblaciones de peces).

  • Description (English):

    The research group Dynamics of the Planktonic Ecosystem is focused on the ecology of marine plankton communities and their influence on biogeochemical fluxes, including the dynamics of the physical environment as the main forcing of the system. We study a large variety of hydrodynamic processes and organisms from bacteria to fish larvae, work at different organization levels, from individuals to ecosystems, and analyze their interactions at a variety of spatial scales including mesoscale processes, fenology and decadal. Field work, experimental studies and modeling are combined to understand the functioning of the hydrodynamics, the structure, diversity and function of planktonic communities, how the entire system is influenced by climate change and how it affects higher trophic levels (e.g., fish populations).
