In memoriam. Kenneth R. Tenore (22.3.1943 – 7.05.2006)
Dr. Kenneth Tenore had played a significant role in the Marine Ecology field in the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. He began in the early seventies as Principal Investigator of a Cooperative Research Program in the Ria de Arosa, funded by the Spanish American Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. During this Program he invited many American scientists to work in the Rias of Galicia, and a group of Spanish young scientists were able to stay in the United States to specialise in their respective research fields. He taught many of us how to write a scientific paper, and encouraged us to participate in international meetings and cooperative projects. Through those years he succeeded in the formation of a Spanish team on Marine Ecology, which stayed working together during many years. Once the Cooperative Program led by Ken Tenore finished, this group slowly dispersed towards different objectives, but all of us are deeply indebted to his enthusiasm, wide knowledge and coordination capacity. His memory will survive in the members of the Marine Ecology group within the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. We will always keep his bright example between us. Finally we would like to say goodbye to Ken by remembering a Gaelic poem that he recited in 1982, the last day of the Rias Program: “May the road rise to meet you Rest in peace our beloved teacher and friend. |
