Abstract:

The overall objective of this project, which is maintained for 2015, is to promote and coordinate studies on the biology and ecology of the main commercial species exploited by the Spanish water fleet , especially in the North Atlantic: greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides), cod (Gadus morhua), american plaice (Hippoglossoides platessoides) , redfish (Sebastes mentella), grenadier (Coryphaenoides rupestris) , northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis) and others. So, four main lines of work focused on the ecology (the study of structural groupings of fish community indices), growth, reproductive biology and the study of food webs (modeling) of the main species develop in NAFO , ICES (Divs. XII , XIV and VIb) and Arctic areas Subareas I and II), are developed. In addition, this project is responsible for the coordination, preparation and conduct of scientific surveys in the North Atlantic, as a continuation of existing series: Platuxa, Flemish Cap and Fletan Negro 3L. These surveys and most of the activities described are provided and financed by the DCF .
