Abstract:

The geo-environmental events that occur on the continental shelf have a great impact on many of the socio-economic activities that take place both in coastal regions and on the same continental shelf. The study of deltaic systems is of great interest from the point of view of climate change , as their development is greatly influenced by the hydrological regime of the river basin. The characteristics of the rivers of eastern Andalusia , and the hydrological regime and the physiography of the margin characteristics are reflected in the submarine morphology and regional distribution of marine sediments from the mouths and adjacent areas. How sediment supply by rivers occurs , what factors affect the formation of feathers with suspended sediment and how the sediment is deposited from these feathers , or by charging line, what happens to the sediment once deposited and how wrong part of the stratigraphic record are questions that try to answer in this project. The current project builds on the experience gained in the implementation of scientific excellence MOSAIC project (2007/2010) , in which the need to acquire a better understanding of sedimentary processes in small time scale and was completed in quantifying detail the volume of sediment transport, much needed data to improve mathematical models and numerical simulations. For this, a novel methodology appropriate to the objectives of the project, with modern and effective techniques , low environmental impact arises . The monitoring of sediment plumes will be done through satellite images, real-time monitoring of the hydrodynamic variables using different sensors of environmental variables, using the buoy SMARTBOUY , and seabed sampling by sampling a dredge box- corer . The development of this project is only possible within a team of a strong multidisciplinary character : first , obtaining in situ data and the analysis thereof , as well as other available , is provided by geologists , the development of numerical algorithms and their implementation is work of mathematicians , and the validation and critical analysis of the model results is a joint effort . Thus, in the course of it will be necessary to further develop a common language to facilitate the exchange between scientists of both discipline , which will certainly be beneficial to all. Also the expected results of the model have a strong multidisciplinary and transversal because, as noted in paragraph 9, potentially of interest to a wide variety of knowledge areas closely related to Natural Resources and Environment , including geology , Oceanography and Marine Biology Ecology , Coastal Engineering and Marine Engineering , etc .
